Dear Mark Zuckerberg

Dear Mark Zuckerberg

posté hier sur Facebook parce que parfois on a besoin d'influenceurs pour changer les choses :-)

Dear Mark Zuckerberg,

Congratulation on the birth of your first child. Except the short nights, the first months of a child are really beautiful : the child sleeps, eats and looks at his parents with wonder ! But hey, we are not on a Facebook account, in real life sooner or later, your daughter will… crawl, and then she will… walk and talk ! One day your daughter will try to put her fingers in the socket, will throw away her food at your face, will paint your favorite computer… in pink ! In short, she will challenge you (feeling impatient ?). And of course, this will happen when you will already feel exhausted after a long working day.

So the moment will come when you will have to « choose your side ». I’m not writting about Dark Side (I’m not your father) but about education.

In education, you have 3 possibilities :

- Let your daughter do what she wants (beware, she could become the next Nellie Oleson ouch !) - Shout at her, practice time out … (be careful, remember The Milgram experiment on obedience to authority ?)

- Remember this post and follow my advice.

A very simple advice : read books on positive discipline (or « conscous parenting », or « kindness education », whatever its name. I personnaly strongly recommend How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk by Adele Faber, Elaine Mazlish). You will learn how to raise your daughter in a respectful manner (deal with her negative feelings, express your anger without being hurtful, use alternatives to punishment that promote self-discipline etc.)

Why is it important to choose this method of education ? Because our modern societies lack empathy and kindness. We lack empathy at school (hello Bullying), we lack empathy at work (hello psychosocial risks and burn out), we lack empathy in our everyday life (hello nervous breakdown, hello blacklivesmatter, hello Donald Trump).

I don’t want my daughters to become angry team managers shouting at their coworkers, I don’t want my daughters to become angry teachers calling students names… That’s why I’m trying to raise them in a respectful manner but I need your help ! You have a 50 Millions people community on Facebook so if you could practice and sometimes post on this issue that could make a difference tomorrow. I am convinced that kindness is one of the key for a better future. #timetobekind
